Sunburst
Sunburst is a new public art installation in Scottsdale at Skysong Innovation Center. RE:site is the Artist team led by Norman Lee and Shane Allbritton and Metalab is providing architecture and project management services. This sculptural form features three stainless steel framework rings that are embedded with color-changing dichroic glass panels. The three rings are connected in a relative three-axis relationship, inspired by the form of a spherical astrolabe. Raised up by cables to float above a pedestrian corner, the resulting form is a dramatic, radiant gesture that celebrates the convergence of data, technology, and the global economy. The title of the artwork, Sunburst, has multiple layers of meaning. The Sun is central to ASU symbolism and the natural environment of Arizona. As the bright Arizona sun travels overhead, the sculpture’s dichroic glass panels change color, transparency, and reflectivity.
Radiance complete
Installation is complete on "Radiance", a public art project for El Paso Airport's Conrac facility. RE:site (Norman Lee and Shane Allbrittoon) Artists. Metalab provided design optimization and project managment services. Steel canopy was fabricated by Star Precision and the dichroic acrylic pieces were made by Graphtec. They were hung from the canopy with ball chain pre-cut to specific lengths.
Radiance progress
Radiance is ready for installation. We've tested a 1/4 section and added more dichroic acrylic pieces to the composition. Going up in May 2016!
Liberty Bell Tower
We are working with Brave Architects on the design development and fabrication documents for a tower in Liberty, Texas to house a 1:1 replica of the original Liberty Bell. It was cast in the 1960's by the original foundary and a tower that was built for it in 1976 was destroyed by Hurricane Rita. The tower will be fabricated in two main subassemblies so the the bell can be installed on the ground and lifted into place on to of the base.
Formosa
Another project with Matthew Geller, Artist for the Myrtle Ave corridor. A giant manhole cover with cast glass skylights of different colors is held up by 3 columns with cast iron details. The assembly is made of corten steel and will be made in Houston and shipped to NYC for installation later this year. Merge Studios is the fabricator.
Riverboat proposal presented
We had a great time preparing for the submission and participating in the exhibition and presentation of our "Riverboat" project for the competition in San Antonio. The team from Metalab all attended and assisted with getting the design in the spotlight. The only hitch was a last minute dead battery powering the LED in the model. Channel 12 was there to cover the event. What an experience!
Time In Motion
We recently completed this installation with RE:Site (Shane Allbritton and Norman Lee) at Hobby Airport in the new international arrivals baggage claim area. The 6' x 70' glass covered vitrine contains memorabilia from the history of the airport starting in 1910 to the present. The steel casework conceals a linear array of LED that animate colors to convey the passing of time and enlighten the experience of waiting for one's bag.
Radiance Dry Fit
We test fit all eight pie shaped sections of the canopy for Radiance. It will be installed at El Paso airport early next year. Star Precision Manufacturing provided digital fabrication and assembly. Merge Studios to provide installation support.

Legends Plaza Complete
We worked with UH Campus Art and Athletics on the Bill Yeoman Legends Plaza at UH TDECU Stadium. The plaza is dedicated to outstanding athletes and the history of the UH football program. Our system of walls with removable text panels that can provide additional space for names in the future were digitally fabricated from our files with Crow Corporation providing CNC laser and fabrication assembly.
