Quinta Mazatlan Superstructure

for Overland Partners, Design Architect and Megamorphosis, AOR

In Collaboration with Design Architects Overland Partners, METALAB was commissioned to provide Design Optimization for 3 large-scale superstructure canopies spanning over 2 educational and events buildings functions as an epic trellis - providing shaded outdoor rooftop spaces, an outdoor amphitheater, and most importantly a sort of camouflage for the facility - cloaking it in greenery and nest-like sticks of corten steel. Working closely with Architects of Record Megamorphosis and Structural Engineering firm IES, METALAB maintained a 3D Master Model as an accurate tool for pricing and ultimately fabrication. At each phase of development, we kept in focus the mission of the world birding center, asking of our efforts “would a bird build it that way?”
