Unexpected Spaces
Marta Chilindron, Artist
Argentine-born artist Marta Chilindron transforms the international terminal with Unexpected Spaces, a striking installation composed of three colorful glass panels. Taking the geometry inherent in nature as her starting point, Chilindron explores the shifting effects of light through digital images printed on glass at a monumental scale (1350 square feet). Primary colors yellow and blue conceptually merge to create the green centerpiece, forming a harmonious connection across the building’s façade and its interior space.
Chilindron combines translucent color and abstract geometry to create complex spatial relationships that engage and envelop the traveler. The interplay of light and color through the panels creates a dynamic yet calming atmosphere, echoing the energy and movement of international travel. Themes of nature and spatial ambiguity intertwine, offering passengers a moment of serenity amidst their journeys. This vibrant installation celebrates Houston’s multicultural identity, transforming the terminal into a welcoming gateway inspiring curiosity and connection.
